Journals

The SUB Göttingen supports publishing in journals with various offers, including consulting and infrastructure services as well as financial support.

Publishing in pure or gold open access journals is supported via the publication fund, and there are also publishing agreements that can be used to offer discounts on article fees. In addition, the SUB Göttingen is building institutional infrastructures for the publication of journals. All of these activities are Diamond Open Access (DOA). This refers to scientific publications for which there are no costs or license barriers for reading or publishing. These are often infrastructures that are operated at scientific institutions or publication platforms where the costs are covered by memberships or similar models. The topic of DOA has close links to scholard-led publishing.

The University of Göttingen's Open Access Policy encourages university members to take responsibility for Open Access publication channels and particularly supports Open Access publication infrastructures that do not incur any direct costs for researchers.

Publication of Open Access Journals with GRO.journals

The SUB Göttingen is setting up a journal service for the Göttingen campus using the software Open Journal Systems (OJS). OJS fully supports the editorial process of scientific journals. Researchers can submit their manuscripts directly via OJS. Journal editors have access to functionalities for organizing the review process, editing and typesetting. Articles can also be assigned to journal issues and published. Publication takes place on the journal's website, which is also realized via OJS. In addition, OJS enables the management of metadata and interfaces.

The SUB Göttingen hosts the software and supports the journal editors in setting up their instance. It is available to advise on questions and problems. If the journals are published under the label of the Göttingen University Press, further editorial support is possible.

Another software used in this context is SciFlow Publish. SciFlow Publish simplifies the creation of documents through the use of templates that ensure a uniform layout of the final manuscripts. Word documents and other formats can be imported and then edited. At the end of the process, various output formats such as PDF and HTML can be exported, which can then be made available in the OJS instance, for example.

Current Journals

At the moment the SUB Göttingen supports six journals via its OJS infrastructure.

Use of OS-APS for Institutions in Lower Saxony

As part of the "DOA Production" project, institutions in Lower Saxony can use the OS-APS software free of charge and use it to typeset documents and output them in various formats. OS-APS stands for "Open Source Academic Publishing Suite", which is the open source software from SciFlow Publish. OS-APS can make a significant contribution to the further professionalization of journals in Lower Saxony in terms of findability, accessibility and indexing. The accessibility requirements and specifications of funding organizations for full machine readability can thus also be met for small and very small publication services and journals.

Open Access Transformation of Journals

The open access transformation of journals that were previously published in print or behind a license barrier can be funded by third parties. This is done within the framework of the Publication Fund of Lower Saxony  NiedersachsenOPEN, which is funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) as part of the zukunft.niedersachsen program.

If the person responsible has an affiliation with the University of Göttingen or the University Medical Center Göttingen, the funding application can be supervised and submitted by the SUB Göttingen. Please contact us at oa@sub.uni-goettingen.de.

General information on the transformation of journals can be found on the website of the open-access.network project.
