Registration

The services of the SUB Göttingen are available to students and members of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Many services can also be used by private individuals.

How to Apply for a Library Card

Your student ID chip card is also your library card for the SUB Göttingen. You will find your library card number on the back of the card; it begins with 0007. Please request your password via the "Request password" function.

An inter-library loan account is set up automatically, the interlibrary loan password is assigned via our service desks.

All information about the studIT account, which can be used to log in to various online services, is summarized on the StudIT pages. With your studIT account, you can already access electronic media from anywhere via eduVPN.

 

Your university ID card is also your ID card for the SUB Göttingen. Your library card number is visible on the back of the card; it begins with 0007. Please request your password via the "Request password" function.

With your GWDG account, you can access electronic media from anywhere via eduVPN.

A guest card is issued to persons who are neither employees nor students at the University of Göttingen, but who are granted use of the library due to their work at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Please contact your faculty office if you require or renew a guest card.

To apply for a guest card, you first need a GWDG guest account. This is created or renewed by the IT department of your institution/faculty and entered in the guest card form by your faculty. By linking your GWDG guest account and guest card, you can access electronic media from anywhere using eduVPN when you select the eduVPN profile ‘Guest of University of Göttingen’.

To borrow media from the SUB Göttingen, please fill out the SUB registration form and enter your guest card number, which you will find on the back of the card; it begins with 0007008. Your guest card also serves as your ID for the SUB Göttingen. You must request the password using the ‘Request password’ function. The inter-library loan password is issued at our service desks.

For external members of the University Medical Center (UMG) there is a special workflow to get access to the services of the SUB Göttingen (see below).

The process for granting access to external members of Göttingen University Medical Center is currently being revised.
For this reason, it is not possible to provide guest access at this time.
In the meantime, please refer to the ZBMed remote access (further information).

Private individuals aged 16 and over who are resident in Germany receive a library card, which costs 5.00 euros once. You can have the validity extended annually free of charge by presenting your identity card at the SUB Göttingen.

As a rule, you can pick up your library card on the next working day (Monday - Friday) at the reception desk of the Central Library. Please bring your identity card with you. If you present a passport, you will also need a registration certificate confirming your residence in Germany. The registration certificate must not be older than six months.

We ask school pupils to only apply for a library card if they have specific requests to order and borrow items. ID cards should be collected individually and not as part of a class. In the case of minors, we require a printed copy of a declaration of consent from a parent or guardian (PDF 170 KB).

Please note that, owing to licensing restrictions, for private individuals external access to electronic resources from outside the campus network is not permitted.

To register, please fill in the *REGISTRATION FORM*.

If the conditions for a library card for private individuals are not met, you will receive a library guest card for the duration of your visit. Please fill out this *REGISTRATION FORM*.

With this card you can place orders and view the items you have ordered on site in the reading rooms. Unfortunately, it is not possible to borrow items outside the library or to access electronic resources from outside the campus network.

 

As a member of Alumni Göttingen e.V. you will receive an alumni membership card from the Alumni Contact Office. This card gives you free access to the SUB Göttingen.

Please fill out the *REGISTRATION FORM* and enter your card number, which you will find on the back of the alumni membership card; it begins with 0007.

Your card will be activated at the reception desk of the Central Library; your identity card is required to check your address details. Please request your password using the "Request password" function.

An inter-library loan account can be set up on request, the interlibrary loan password is assigned via our service desks.

The library card is not transferable. By registering, you accept the SUB Göttingen terms of use.
