Analytics

We support the development of open science services by providing data-based insights into current trends in scientific publishing using open data.

We support open science through data-driven insights into current trends in scholarly communication using open data. We also provide responsible bibliometric data analyses to support decision-making processes in the SUB Göttingen and the Georg-August Universität Göttingen. To this end, we draw on extensive big data analytics databases. You can find more information about this in our blog.

Open Scholarly Data Warehouse

With the Open Scholarly Data Warehouse, based on Google BigQuery, SUB Göttingen provides publicly accessible, high-performance analytical access to open metadata from Crossref, OpenAlex, and Semantic Scholar.

The data warehouse is used in quantitative science studies, supports third-party funding activities (BMFTR, DFG, EU), and serves as a database for data products such as dashboards.

At the same time, we are developing open source tools for statistical computing (R, Python) to access open scholarly data sources (e. g., Crossref, Europe PMC, Unpaywall) within international open science communities such as rOpenSci.

Networks and Cooperations

We participate in the German Kompetenznetzwerk Bibliometrie, helping the science studies research community in Germany to work with quality-assured bibliometrics data infrastructure. This allows us to access Scopus and Web of Science for large-scale bibliometrics. We furthermore participate in international initiatives that promote open metadata and transparency in scholarly publishing including the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information and OA2020.

Bibliometric Services - Scholarly Communications

We conduct data analyses for the library, faculties, and university administration with a focus on institutional profiles and responsible use of bibliometric data. Get in touch to discuss analytics tailored to your scholarly communication questions.
