Catalogues
The Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) lists local holdings, including e-media and databases licensed for the campus, as well as a wide range of freely accessible or open access resources.
In GöDiscovery, you can find books, journals, databases and a wide range of journal articles – from the holdings of Göttingen State and University Library (SUB Göttingen) and the departmental libraries, as well as from external sources. By default, the search is limited to local holdings; the search scope can be expanded via the settings.
Books
Printed books
Literature pertaining to the field of Ancient Near Eastern Studies is primarily located in the open-shelf collection of the Cultural Studies Divisional Library (BBK. It is located in wing A in the "Non-European Cultural Studies" area on the 3rd and 2nd floors.
- Please also take note of works located in the 'Ancient History' section in Wing B on the 1st floor.
- Books published up to 1900 are located in the Historical Building.
- Books stored in the closed stacks can be ordered via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.
- Further literature and the Myth Library is available at the Department of Ancient Oriental Studies and can be consulted on request at the institute.
E-Books
Within the campus network, e-books can be searched for and accessed directly via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery. In addition, e-books are available through subject-specific databases and interdisciplinary databases, such as the National License Collections of Monographs. University members can also access titles licensed for the campus from outside the campus network via eduVPN or Shibboleth.
Book not available?
If a book you are looking for is not available in Göttingen, you can request it via interlibrary loan or submit a purchase suggestion. Students who require a textbook for a course assignment also have the option to use the book acquisition programme for Göttingen University students.
Journals
Printed and electronic editions of subject-relevant journals can be found in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) and in GöDiscovery. The Electronic Journals Library (EZB) provides a subject-based overview and uses a traffic light system to indicate availability and access levels. Titles licensed for the campus can also be accessed off-campus via eduVPN or Shibboleth.
Relevant print journals are freely accessible in the Cultural Studies Divisional Library (BBK) on the 3rd floor of Wing A. Additional titles and older volumes can be requested from the stacks.
Databases
Databases licensed for the campus are listed in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) and in GöDiscovery. You can also access these databases through the Database Information System (DBIS), which offers an extended selection, including freely accessible resources. The databases are organised by subject area, with particularly recommended 'top databases' listed at the top of each subject page. Access to the databases is indicated by a traffic light system. University members can also access the available databases off-campus via eduVPN or Shibboleth.
