Astronomy
Holdings from astronomy, astrophysics and space research can be found primarily in the Physics Divisional Library and the Central Library.
Catalogues
In the discovery system GöDiscovery you can find books, journals, databases and a large number of articles from journals - both from the holdings of the SUB Göttingen and the institute libraries as well as from external sources. By default, the local holdings are searched; the search area can be expanded via the settings.
In the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) you will only find the local holdings.
Books: print and digital
Books
Books on astronomy, astrophysics and space sciences in print form are available in the Physics Divisional Library (BBP) . These include commemorative publications, handbooks, textbooks and other titles. Other books can also be found at various locations on campus, for example in the faculty and institute libraries.
Until a few years ago, astronomy, astrophysics and space research was a collection focus within the framework of a supra-regional system of scientific literature supply (so-called special subject collections), which was financially supported by the German Research Foundation.
E-Books
Books on astronomy, astrophysics and space sciences, such as textbooks or manuals and commentaries published as e-books, can be found mainly in the relevant subject databases licensed by us. Electronic books, especially monographs or manuals, can be searched and accessed via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.
Locations
Some of the holdings are freely accessible in the Physics Divisional Library. The literature is listed systematically according to the Göttingen Online Classification (GOK).
Book not available?
If you cannot find a title, you can order the book via interlibrary loan or send us a Purchase suggestion for an e-book or a print title.
Journals
Journals are mainly available digitally. You can find e- and print editions in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The Electronic Journals Library (EZB) provides an overview sorted by subject and uses color symbols to indicate access to the full text. Many licensed titles can also be used off campus via eduVPN.
Databases
Databases can be found in the Database Information System (DBIS), organized by subject. The licensed fee-based databases can also be found in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The free databases can only be found in DBIS. Data resources of various types are listed, in particular subject bibliographies that list articles, as well as full-text databases that contain articles from electronic journals.
Database Information System (DBIS)
Selection of databases in DBIS
- Web of Science
Web of Science (formerly: Web of Knowledge) enables parallel and interdisciplinary searches in an extensive range of databases under one search interface (CrossSearch). - Encyclopaedia of Astronomy
Encyclopaedia on the fields of relativity, compact objects, black holes, galaxies, active galactic nuclei, extragalactics, stellar physics, nuclear astrophysics, quantum physics, particle physics, high-energy physics, quantum field theories, hydrodynamics, magnetohydrodynamics and cosmology.
