Digital Humanities
The digital humanities (DH) are still a young discipline and field of research and can be understood as the totality of all efforts to apply information technologies to the field of the humanities.
An introduction to this is the book: Jannidis, Fotis, Hubertus Kohle, and Malte Rehbein, eds. 2017. Digital Humanities: eine Einführung. Stuttgart: J.B. Metzler Verlag. This introduction provides a good overview of DH and can be found several times in the library's holdings, both as a print copy and as an e-book.
The University and the SUB Göttingen are active in several areas of Digital Humanities, such as the Institute for Digital Humanities, the Research and Development Department of the SUB or the Text+ consortium.
Catalogues
In the discovery system GöDiscovery you can find books, journals, databases and a large number of articles from journals - both from the holdings of the SUB Göttingen and the institute libraries as well as from external sources. By default, the local holdings are searched; the search area can be expanded via the settings.
In the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) you will only find the local holdings. Publications on Digital Humanities can be filtered in GUK with the search "lsy g 000".
Publications: Print and digital
Publication types
A wide range of publication types are relevant for the Digital Humanities: articles, printed books, e-books, essays in edited volumes, blog posts, conference papers, data papers, tutorials, research data, etc. On this page you will find links to various resources where you can find them. If you need help, please feel free to write to us. You will find the contact information below.
Locations
In the reading room of the Central Library you will find a collection of important titles from the Digital Humanities under the shelfmark "G 000". You will also find further titles at other locations. You can find these additional titles in the Göttingen University Catalogue or in GöDiscovery, as explained on this page.
Book not available?
If you cannot find a title, you can order the book via interlibrary loan or send us a Purchase suggestion for an e-book or a print title.
Databases
Two databases on publications are of particular interest for Digital Humanities:
- The Index of Digital Humanities Conferences: Abstracts of Digital Humanities Conferences
- dblp: Database on articles in computer science and other related subjects, including digital humanities
In addition, databases can be found in the Database Information System (DBIS), organized by subject. The licensed fee-based databases can also be found in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The free databases can only be found in DBIS. Data resources of various types are listed, in particular subject bibliographies that list articles, as well as full-text databases that contain articles from electronic journals.

How can I find DH Tools?
The following portals list and provide an overview of several DH tools, mainly for textual resources:
Publication of data
The publication of data is an important task for the Digital Humanities. Here you can find some of our services.
We are happy to support you with your own project.
Journals
Journals from the Digital Humanities are mainly available digitally. You can find digital and print editions in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). In the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) you can find some journals that are indexed with the keyword "Digital Humanities". You can tell whether the journal is accessible by the color coding. Many licensed titles can also be accessed off campus via VPN.
