Forest Sciences
The Forestry Divisional Library and the Central Library are the main places where you will find holdings relating to forestry.
Catalogues
In the discovery system GöDiscovery you can find books, journals, databases and a large number of articles from journals - both from the holdings of the SUB Göttingen and the institute libraries as well as from external sources. By default, the local holdings are searched; the search area can be expanded via the settings.
In the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) you will only find the local holdings.
Books: print and digital
Books
Forestry Divisional Library (BBF) holds the majority of books on forestry science in print form. These include dissertations, commemorative publications, handbooks, textbooks and other titles. Other books can also be found at various locations on campus, for example in the faculty and institute libraries.
Until a few years ago, Forest Sciences was a collection focus within the framework of a supra-regional system of scientific literature supply (so-called special subject collections), which was financially supported by the German Research Foundation.
E-Books
Forest science books such as textbooks or manuals and commentaries published as e-books can mainly be found in the relevant subject databases licensed by us. Electronic books, especially monographs or manuals, can be searched and accessed via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.
Locations
Some of the holdings are freely accessible in the reading room of the Central Library. However, a large part is located in closed stacks and can be ordered via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK).
The literature in the reading room is arranged systematically according to the Göttingen Online Classification (GOK).
Book not available?
If you cannot find a title, you can order the book via interlibrary loan or send us a Purchase suggestion for an e-book or a print title.
Journals
Forest science journals are mainly available digitally. You can find e- and print editions in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The Electronic Journals Library (EZB) provides an overview sorted by subject and uses color symbols to indicate access to the full text. Many licensed titles can also be used off campus via eduVPN.
Databases
Databases can be found in the Database Information System (DBIS), organized by subject. The licensed fee-based databases can also be found in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The free databases can only be found in DBIS. Data resources of various types are listed, in particular subject bibliographies that list articles, as well as full-text databases that contain articles from electronic journals.
Database Information System (DBIS)
Selection of databases in DBIS
- Forestry Compendium
Compilation of global knowledge on forestry. The compendium is intended as a practical decision-making aid. It contains detailed information on more than 1,200 tree species and over 750 entries on pests, tree diseases and weed species, as well as country reports and seed suppliers. - Forest Science Collection
Forest science collection (formerly: Forest Science Database, TreeCD) documents worldwide publications (specialist journals, research reports, conference proceedings, patent literature, etc.) on topics from the field of forest science and related areas, each with brief summaries. The database is based on the printed CAB Abstracts from CAB (Commonwealth Agricultural Bureau), supplemented by other relevant services, e.g: Forestry abstracts (from 1939), Forest Product Abstracts (from 1978), Agroforestry Abstracts (from 1988).
