General Natural Sciences
Holdings from the natural sciences can be found primarily in the Central Library and some Divisional Libraries.
Catalogues
In the discovery system GöDiscovery you can find books, journals, databases and a large number of articles from journals - both from the holdings of the SUB Göttingen and the institute libraries as well as from external sources. By default, the local holdings are searched; the search area can be expanded via the settings.
In the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) you will only find the local holdings.
Books: print and digital
Books
Natural science books in print form are located both in the Central Library and in the Historical Building. These include dissertations, commemorative publications, handbooks, textbooks and other titles. Other books can also be found at various locations on campus, for example in the faculty and institute libraries.
E-Books
Scientific books such as textbooks or manuals published as e-books can be found mainly in the relevant subject databases licensed by us. Electronic books, especially monographs or manuals, can be searched and accessed via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.
Locations
Some of the holdings are freely accessible in the reading room of the Central Library. However, a large part is located in closed stacks and can be ordered via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The literature in the reading room is arranged systematically according to the Göttingen Online Classification (GOK).
Book not available?
If you cannot find a title, you can order the book via interlibrary loan or send us a Purchase suggestion for an e-book or a print title.
Journals
Natural science journals are mainly available digitally. You can find e- and print editions in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The Electronic Journals Library (EZB) provides an overview sorted by subject and uses color symbols to indicate access to the full text. Many licensed titles can also be used off campus via eduVPN.
Databases
Databases can be found in the Database Information System (DBIS), organized by subject. The licensed fee-based databases can also be found in GöDiscovery and in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK). The free databases can only be found in DBIS. Data resources of various types are listed, in particular subject bibliographies that list articles, as well as full-text databases that contain articles from electronic journals.
Database Information System (DBIS)
Selection of scientific databases in DBIS
- Web of Science
Web of Science (formerly: Web of Knowledge) enables parallel and interdisciplinary searches in an extensive range of databases under one search interface (CrossSearch). - Journal Citation Reports
Journal Citation Reports provides access to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Essential Science Indicators (ESI).
JCR enables quick analysis and comparison of journals from the Science and Social Sciences Citation Indices, as well as (since July 2021) the Arts & Humanities and Emerging Sources Citation Indices of the WoS Core Collection. Journal profile pages provide comprehensive journal metrics including the Journal Impact Factor (JIF) and the Journal Citation Indicator (JCI) as well as contextual descriptive information.
