Law
In this section you will find information on research and innovations in the subject area Law. If you also have a research project or a course for which you need library support, please contact us.
Databases
Most of the content relevant to legal education and research can now be researched and accessed in specialized databases. You can access the resources freely available on the Internet as well as all legal databases licensed by the SUB Göttingen via the Database Information System (DBIS).
Please note that the legal books and journals contained in the databases are not always listed separately in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery and must therefore be searched separately in the individual databases in exceptional cases.
In the case of fee-based databases, access is only possible if the SUB Göttingen has purchased licenses. Further information can be found on our access information page.
From outside the campus network, use of the full-text database beck-online is only possible via VPN access and a personal user account.
Instructions for setting up the VPN connection can be found on the information page of the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen (GWDG).
Important: Please use your *@*.uni-goettingen.de or your *@gwdg.de e-mail address for initial registration with beck-online. Only register for the first time from outside the campus network if a VPN connection has been activated beforehand! Otherwise, you may create a user account that is not linked to the licensed content of the University of Göttingen.
Further information on the changed access option can be found on the information page of the beck-online database.
Please create a personal login in the Juris database to use individual features such as e-mail alerts, saving your search history, file management and collaborative working. You can also access this from outside the campus network using VPN.
Instructions for setting up the VPN connection can be found on the information page of the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen (GWDG).
Books in print and digital
E-books in general
You will find legal books such as textbooks, handbooks and commentaries published as e-books mainly in the relevant legal databases licensed by us, but also in interdisciplinary databases and, for example, in the National License Collections Monographs.
If you cannot find the e-book you are looking for, you can send us a Purchase suggestion.
Textbooks
Electronic textbooks are contained in particular in modules of special textbook databases. The following list gives you a brief overview of the textbook databases currently available:
Please search for further textbooks - also in print form - via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.
More e-books
Electronic books, in particular monographs, manuals or legal commentaries from other publishers such as
and many others can also be searched and accessed individually via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.
Books in general
Law books in print form can be found in the SUB Göttingen and also spread across the campus in the various faculty and institute libraries.
In the SUB Göttingen, these are located both in the Central Library (ZB) and in the Historical Building (HG). These include dissertations, commemorative publications, legal texts, handbooks, commentaries, textbooks, etc.
Locations
Some of the holdings are freely accessible in the reading room of the Central Library. However, a large part is located in closed stacks and can be ordered via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK).
The literature in the reading room is arranged systematically in class "N" according to the Göttingen Online Classification (GOK).
Book not available?
If you cannot find a title, you can order the book via interlibrary loan or send us a Purchase suggestion for an e-book or a print title.
Journals
Law journals in print form can be found in the Central Library as well as in the Historical Building of the SUB Göttingen and also spread across the campus in the various faculty and institute libraries.
The holdings that are not freely accessible in the reading room can be searched and ordered via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery. The reading room journals are listed in the Central Library under class "N" of the Göttingen Online Classification (GOK).
If you cannot find the journal you are looking for in printed form or prefer to use the electronic version, you can search for it in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) using the subject section Law.
Please note the access modalities.
Articles
Legal articles and contributions are mainly published in legal journals, commemorative publications and anthologies. If you are looking for a specific article and do not know in which publication it has been published, you can either search for the title of the article or the name of the author:
- Search in the network catalogue GVK-PLUS (only available in the university's network) or in the licensed full-text databases.
- Search in a bibliography
- printed: Karlsruher Juristische Bibliographie
- electronically: Kuselit Online – legal bibliography from more than 700 legal journals, Festschriften and collective works – or Periodicals Index Online – national license, please note the information on availability.
Or you can search for the publication in which the article appeared and check where the full text of the entire publication is accessible via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.
